Outlandish Pish Posh

Welcome to my inaugural post here at Outlander Dreaming. I am not new to the blogging world or that of Outlander so I am sure some will recognize my blogging name of Nymerias. It has been a whirlwind of frenzied information since the reveal that Diana Gabaldon’s beloved series would become a show on the Starz Network! I won’t rehash it all because this post would be a long one. We have seen all the trailers, watched all the Q&A’s and seen the first episode entitled Sassenach.Now all we need to do is sit back and enjoy all the glory that is Outlander.

The powers that be at Outlander are staying true to the spirit of the book series they are adapting a show from. I know we are only one episode in but this is the best adaptation of a book series I have seen to date. Every review I have read since the first episode aired has been positive and not a fault could be found. Everything that has made the book series such a phenomenal success came to life right in front of our eyes, thanks to the efforts of the director, producer, cast and crew. I was in awe of how beautiful the scenes were and in how the story is being portrayed. It was truly beautiful!

My Outlandish friends and I have been having a blast since the Outlander news took the internet by storm. My friend Mony (as we like to call her) from Outlander Italy and a Saucy Wench and I have fun trying to decipher the some of the heavy Scottish brogue. Mony likes to caption to caption the trailers for her website and you should hear some of our convos. They go a little something like this! Of course, Tobias is English but still has a heavy accent and hard to hear at times!

Mony: New Clip feat BJR! GAH, Tobias is great!But….can some of you tell me what is Tobias saying at 0.18? “Darkness……….?”

Saucy Wench: At :18, I think he says, “Darkness…has grown within me. Hatred…of the very world itself.”

Mony: Oh thank you! I had trouble getting Claire too, but at the end I figured it out she was saying “I cannot undo the things you’ve than. It’s not too late to win back your humanity”. Or so I think. LOL Thanks again! Sorry I keep asking you to translate it for me!

Saucy Wench: It’s awfully tough duty to have to listen to these clips over and over! But when I’m doing official research for you, I don’t feel guilty or obsessed! These actors don’t really enunciate some of the little words. Makes them verra hard to understand, especially with their accents.

Nymerias: I would have to watch it several times and still not sure I could make it out..lol! Tough job but someone has to do it!

That was but one of our ‘can you translate this’ discussions. It won’t be the last, I am sure and I can pass on our really good ones next time. There was a moment when my fellow admin here at Outlander Dreaming piped in with an off-topic comment that will have you laughing your ass off. Basically, her hubby walked in while the show was on and it was a sex scene and he said ‘you’re taping this right?” Sounds like that hooked him right there and I said men! This is a perfect time to bring up that there is so much more than sex to like about this series, I believe it has everything that both sexes want and need in a TV show. This will be a show that has the men hooked just as much as the women and I am looking forward to reactions from both camps when we get to certain book scenes.

We plan on having weekly reviews of each episode and there will also be screencaps and trailers for the show. There will be additional features added as soon as the creative juices flow. Right now, I will just leave you with some of my favorite gifs from the show!

When I asked my da how ye knew which was the right woman, he told me when the time came, I’d have no doubt. And I didn’t.
