Outlander Question of the Week: Road Trip!

outlander, outlander starz, outlander 1x04, outlander the gathering, outlander 1x04 the gathering, sam heughan, jamie fraser, outlander quesiton of the week,

It’s Sunday, and time for the Outlander Question of the Week.  Today we’re gonna talk travel…but not just any travel.  Today we’re going to talk about the Road Trip.

At the end of 1×04 “The Gathering” we see Claire and the Highlanders setting out to ride the countryside to collect rents for Colum (and raise a little coinage for an illegal rebel army). Sleeping in the great outdoors, meeting new people, learning new skills …all these things happen to Claire on her Great Highland Road Trip.

So the question this week is: Tell me about your favorite road trip and if you don’t have one, tell me about your dream road trip.

My favorite is a trip I took with my friend Nicole to Salem, MA for Halloween.  There was the 2 hours that we spent on a bridge in New York City stuck in 9am traffic. Literally sat in the same spot for 2 solid hours on a bridge. Oh, and did I mention that Nicole has a bridge phobia .. VERY interesting 2 hours.

Salem was a lot of fun. There were pirates, witches, and ghosts..oh my! We took a Haunted Tour of the town, got to see Giles Corey’s house. (if you don’t know who he is, google him)

It was a great trip and traveling with Nicole is always a hoot.

So, tell… what’s your favorite Road Trip memory?

My daughter lived in Germany for four years. A year ago in October I went to visit her for three weeks. While there we took a road trip to the Czech Republic and Poland. We spent six days visiting a lot of old cities and WWII memorials. I will never forgot that trip with my daughter!

I was at a wedding with a few friends in Hattiesburg, MS. It was an evening wedding. We had originally planned to drive back home that night. We were so close to New Orleans and none of us had been there before so after the wedding and reception, we decided a road trip was in order and drove down there to eat dinner and get coffee and beignets at Cafe DuMonde. Then we piled into our cars and headed back to Atlanta. We had to be back for a family gathering at lunchtime but we ended up stopping in, I think it was Meridian, MS, and got a hotel room. We all just piled on the 2 beds and took a couple of hours nap then onward home. We were a tad late but managed to make the lunch. It was a wild trip but a lot of fun.

After a fabulous safari to N’Goro N’goro crater and Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania,
our mini-van driver fleeing like a bat out of hell just ahead of a thunder and lightning storm driving back to our lodge. (think that old Neil Diamond song) Primeval beginning-of-the-world feeling!
(could have been the END of our world – would have died happy in that VW!)
